CKB Logistics, a subsidiary of publicly listed coal miner PT ABM Investama (ABMM), announced on Monday that its division Baruna Dirga Dharma (BDD) had bought seven tugs and barges with a total load capacity of 7,500 tons.

The vessels would be used to improve CKB Logistics’ services, which focused on coal logistics, said Satrio Daru Sasongko, a director at BDD. He did not disclose the amount paid for the tugs and barges, but said BDD had allocated US$26 million in capital expenditure to buy the craft and other support facilities.

Three of the seven vessels were acquired between September last year and March this year, while the remaining four will be handed over later this year.

BDD, which is an energy-focused logistics company based in 35 locations throughout Indonesia — including Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Ternate, Ambon and Papua — acts as a transshipment agency as well as providing loading and unloading facilities and services.
